Jurong Birdpark Singapore

On Thursday (26th Feb 2009), I hopped to the Jurong Birdpark in Singapore!!

How to get there?
Go to Boonlay Interchange and take bus 194 or 251. I took 251 though. Need to walk around 200m to reach the birdpark entrance.

This bus stop looks nice.

Without hesitant, I let the worker teared my ticket. She said the show at the amphitheater will start soon. But it wasn't soon enough, so, I went to the penguin expedition

Guess who I saw in the penguin room....

I saw Mumble! from the movie Happy Feet! in the picture I mean. Don't they look alike..

These are the emperor penguins in the penguin room.

One emperor penguin swimming in the water. They are really nice when they are underwater! Just like in Happy Feet!

This is one funny penguin. Honestly, I don't understand what it's doing.

Well, the entertainment from that funny penguin was enough to kill the time needed to wait for the show at the amphitheater to start.

This is the host with a hornbill. It's my first time witnessing a hornbill. It's big, especially the beak.

The show started off with a herd of flamingos walking out to the stage.

Those are small little flamingos. The grey colour ones. They turn white and pink as they grow older. Well, some Singaporeans will be so happy if they turn ang moh as they grow older. Especially Dawn Yang and Xiaxue!

Next, some parrots!

These 2 colorful parrots were playing basketball, picking up the balls by their beak.

Then, the parrots performed by flying around the amphitheater, flying through one loop to another.

There was this green parrot, called Amigo! Watch the video below to see what it can do.

Other than counting in English, it can also count in mandarin and sing "Rasa Sayang", "客人来", and Happy Birthday. Some of you don't even know how to sing those songs. Better buck up, or a parrot will take over your place.

Before the show ends, many more parrots appeared and we were allowed to take photos of the parrots while they were busy eating.

After that, I went to the World of Darkness.

There were quite a number of owls inside. But the problem is my digital camera works badly for night scenes. Most of the photos didn't show a lot of things as it was so dark inside that I couldn't even see anything in front.

But I still manage to snap a photo of this owl... which looks like..

Now, I know where judges get the inspiration of wearing that weird wig. Photo from http://sparklepony.blogspot.com/

Tram ride. Brought me around the birdpark. Cost: S$5

Took photo with parrots. I got to hold one.

Not far from the tram station, I saw this eagle statue..

It reminds me of this statue below...

This is the famous eagle statue of Langkawi Island in Malaysia.

Singapore saying to Malaysia:
Don't think that you have an eagle statue, you can be proud meh, I have one too. Some more, mine have much more white color than yours!!!

The flamingo lake was nearby.

Could you see all the pinkish-white spots all over the place? Nice, right? It's like a beauty pageant, with all the beauty queens standing beside the pool.

Believe it or not, couples can take their wedding photos here with the flamingos!

Yeaa.. they were all standing one one leg. According to physics, the pressure must be very high at the foot!

At the wetland, there was this bird, standing still with its wings spread open, drying itself.

I can't remember what it's called.

Saw this nice balcony near the pelican cove. Nice place for wedding photo-taking indeed.

While I was at the pelican cove, I saw this white color thingie on the tree...

...and this pelican was on the tree, whereas the others are all down there at the lake. I didn't know that pelicans stay on the trees!

If you still don't know what's a pelican, it's the bird with big mouth that can contain a lot of fish and water in its mouth.

I was waiting for these 2 swans to use their necks to form the famous valentines' day heart.

But this was the best shot I got!

Not bad wadd.. Close.. close.. Quick! Clap for me!

At least I got 2 parrots making the heart shape! This is new ok, most of the time parrots represents intelligence. But in this pic, it shows love, ok! Special photo!

This is a very arty-farty photo! There are 2 birds in the photo. One is trying to get out of the cage (parrot) and the other is trying to enter the cage (outside bird).

I got these photos from Parrot Paradise in the birdpark.

The Jurong Birdpark has this Waterfall Aviary, which is a huge (x10^99) bird cage...

.. with this guy guarding the entrance. Well, he seems like he's from the Night Safari! Just that this one is more disciplined, like

One black, one white. One yellow, one red. One spear, one gun. But they are more or less the same. Photo from www.pinknews.co.uk

mmm.. now I understand where the British palace guards get their uniform inspiration from!!!

The soldiers below sure have a good sense of dressing!

They have missiles protruding from their chests! Maybe they are actually robots.. like mechwarriors.

This is really one funny bird. If you in-laws are like that, my thought is, they desended from Bee-eaters! So, what can I say.. change your species!

Animals used to be hunted and their heads as decoration.

Photo from http://www.cartoonstock.com

But nowadays...

...birds' head are hunted to put at the end of the bridge!

Why did I say the waterfall aviary is a huge cage???

...it has the WORLD TALLEST MAN-MADE WATERFALL!!!!

Every record set by Singapore, it's all man-made!

In another aviary called Lory Loft, visitors are allowed to feed the birds with food bought at the entrance of the aviary.

Someone feed a parrot.

But they just don't have enough...

The jug contains the food sold to visitors. And the parrots are trying to get from the source!

The comparison between a chicken egg and an ostrich egg.

My suggestion, if you're in a hurry, fry an ostrich egg instead of chicken egg. You just need to eat the ostrich egg alone and you're full already!

This ad says, I tried so hard to produce Pepsi! Make sure you drink it!

Some national geographic knowledge: This is a called the casowary. It has a helmet on its head! They run very fast, that's why they need one. If birds are so clever.. knows that they should wear helmet, you human beings, being the most complex living creature on earth, should know better to wear a helmet!

This is the lengzai bird on the United States of America's emblem.

This is a crowned pigeon. Nice, right? It is bigger than a chicken!

The kingfisher! Used to like kingfishers because they look good and are good at catching fish.

This is the scarlet iblis! Iblis means devil in Islam

I don't know why is there a cock in the scarlet iblises cage. Maybe they wanna cross breed. Imagine next time, your chicken has long beak, red feathers and stand on one leg.

The last cage I went to was the Southeast Asian Birds. That was where I saw the peacocks!

These 2 male peacocks are actually fighting agaist one another. Just like when you park your car close to a peacock, later you'll get your car scratch because these silly birds just don't stop fighting against one another.

It was the last place already, so I decided to have some fun...

...chasing after some crowned pigeons!

Just after I left that cage, it started to rain...

I exited the birdpark while it was still raining.

Saw some ducks having fun in the rain...

... while I was trapped outside at the Bongo Burgers waiting for the rain to stop.
